Chevrolet, who is owned by General Motors, is set to release the brand new Camaro ZL1 model. From the official images, the car looks like it will take the North American car market by storm.

For those of you who may not know, the Camaro ZL1 will take on the likes of the spectacular Ford Mustang. The rivalry has been going on for a number of decades. The luxury Cadillac CTS-V will act as a main rival.

6.2 litre

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 contains a 6.2 litre engine which is a supercharged and has eight cylinders. It is able to achieve 580 BHP at 6,000 RPM. Officially the car is able to reach 0 – 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds. The car’s top speed is a staggering 184 MPH.

Induction kit

The engine’s induction system is quite sophisticated coming with dual inlet paths, a better performing air filter along with a better improved supercharging housing airflow. This brings about both great fuel efficiency and a wonderful performance.

There is an advanced aerodynamic package built onto the car. This includes a carbon fibre roof. An air extractor vent provides extra ventilation for the engine. The front splitter along with a taller lower grille makes the car one of the best performing on the road.

Price and MPG

The car’s price is said to be from $23,280 to £37,980. According to American units, the car will have a MPG range of 24 – 28 MPG which does make the car fairly economical.

Improvements

It will come with a six speed automatic transmission which comes with manumatic control. The car will also include a Tremic six speed manual transmission. The Camaro ZL1 becomes the first ever to receive electric power assisted steering. The steering itself does offer a wonderful engaging drive, with accuracy and tremendous feedback.

Inside the cabin

Inside the cabin, there are not too many changes. This was a good move by the company. A few features within the car have simply been touched up. This includes a head up display as well as a few Chevrolet badges on the door sills and headrests.

Unfortunately the car is not available here in the UK. We would love to see it arrive on the market.

News has been merging from the automotive industry that Opel, otherwise known as Vauxhall in the UK, are planning to compete at a higher level of the market.

The plan is to make Vauxhall the best of volume carmakers in Europe, according to the Head of Marketing at the company, Alain Vissel. The automotive giant wants to return to the powerful position which they used to be at. Opel have said that they once had 70% of the market in Germany previously, and that is what they want to be able to say again.

It has mentioned in other sources that the move is more of an attempt to get closer to Ford and Volkswagen. This piece of news may come as a surprise as many already view Opel level with those types of companies in terms of quality.

The German company would like to make a new line more luxurious models. However they have stated that the company will not attempt to compete with companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW at the premium end of the market. They realise that it wouldn’t be feasible with that particular market not suited to mass-production of cars being developed.

The new strategy may have been instigated by the fact that Vauxhall suffered terribly during the global economic crisis in 2009. The company not only lost a lot of money but its reputation fell too. General Motors, who own Vauxhall, have admitted that they have plenty of work to do to rebuild their faltered reputation.

Vauxhall are hoping to rebuild the lasting damage with a new line of upmarket models. However when looking at other companies previous attempts to execute a similar sort of idea, it hasn’t worked out as planned. Considering this, it could be a major risk for Vauxhall to attempt such a move. Saab is an example who tried and failed at trying to win over attempting to be successful in the high-class end of the market.

On the other hand the new strategy does make a lot of sense. The higher quality the product, the more likely customers will be satisfied.

From one perspective, the new direction may not be about developing high quality luxury cars as they do not want to be entered into direct competition with Audi and BMW. It could be a move to improve the quality of their vehicles to overtake companies such as Ford. Keep in mind that this revelation is at its earliest stages so there could be more to the story than what was initially thought.
