Vauxhall’s intelligent smart phone application named RoadTrip has been downloaded over 3,500 times. The free app has an Apple Store rating of 4 out of 5, which is a very respectable score.
Useful for businesses
It has been used by many fleet companies to track business journeys. A common problem for fleet businesses or those who may have a few drivers is that claims are sometimes made time consuming and complex. The actual journeys taken are able to be viewed through a GPS system. Addresses are easily found with the phone clever postcode look up.
The useful application isn’t just restricted to Vauxhall vehicles. There is now a considerable range of vehicles in the line up.
Safely operated
The data is very well maintained too. Valuable information is able to be stored and backed up in a secure fashion with it being password protected. Reports are able to be imported directly to Microsoft Excel which will make it useful and a lot easier for appropriate departments to analyse.
Extended in 2012
For those of you without an iPhone, the Android version is available next year.
BusinessCar magazine award
The news comes as double success for the company as they recently celebrated receiving the best fleet manufacturer website by BusinessCar magazine. It is quite a difficult award to win with the website having to go through quite an extensive number of tests.
Paul Barker, from the editor of BusinessCar said that the improvement of Vauxhall’s website left them no choice but to select Vauxhall for the award. He said “Vauxhall’s work to revamp its fleet website has proved to be well worth all the effort, with the revised site jumping to the top of BusinessCar’s chart,”
He went on to say how the RoadTrip app was responsible in helping Vauxhall win the award. He said “Our comprehensive review of the top car manufacturers’ online presence found Vauxhall’s site to be the best at serving the business car industry, and the company’s further investment in developing the RoadTrip app, suitable for drivers of all cars, shows how seriously Vauxhall is taking its digital presence.”
We already gave a preview to the RoadTrip just before it was released in our article named “Vauxhall’s new RoadTrip App” on the 23rd September. We predicted that it would be popular and it seems that we were not wrong.
The new Vauxhall Corsavan ecoFLEX is the latest addition to the company’s range of economical vehicles. It contains a 16v 1.3 CDTi which is able to produce 95 BHP.
ecoFLEX benefits
The economy and efficiency values offered by the vehicles are second to none. It is able to achieve 78.3 MPG and emits just 95 g /km C02. Urban driving is said to achieve around 65.5 MPG.
Start/stop
The start/stop technology included on the van helps the environmental credentials. When it comes to a halt, in a traffic jam for instance, the engine switches off in order to save fuel efficiency and C02 emissions. The driver has to simply release the clutch whilst the van is in neutral in order to activate the start/stop feature. When the van needs to be driven off again, the engine starts up immediately. Whilst the engine is off, the van’s power steering, ventilation and braking system performance still up and running, ensuring the safety aspect is still present.
Extra technology
Aerodynamic wheel covers, a variable geometry turbocharger, a lowered chassis and a shift up indicator adds to the efficiency technology within the car. These special pieces of technology also allow the van to be Euro 5 compliant.
Not available yet
At present the vans are not able to purchase but orders can be taken. It will cost £13,048 and Vauxhall are offering four years 0% APR with the deal.
Other ecoFLEX
The addition of the Corsavan meant that the Vauxhall are the first car brand to convert all of their commercial vehicles into an eco version.
At present, the Vauxhall Combo, the Vauxhall Movano, the Vauxhall Vivaro and the Vauxhall Astravan (which is British made) all come under the ecoFLEX umbrella. The company are clearly attempting to keep a strong foothold of the fact that they are the nation’s number one provider when it comes to producing commercial vans.
Vauxhall’s Luton, Bedfordshire and Ellesmere Port plants managed to produce 77,000 plus Vauxhall commercial vans were produced last year.
We believe that the Corsavan ecoFLEX is available from showrooms, it will take the country by storm. Fleet companies will be especially attracted to the eco credentials.
Car manufactures need to survive and stay ahead with revolutionary technology for their cars to adapt to the customer needs and future market demands.
Quality automotive technology is all about new components built within our cars which are considered touches of genius.
Vauxhall are no different and they have developed some ground breaking technology which has helped their top model sustain their popularity.
We take a look at some of their most interesting pieces of technologies in this article.
Voltec
Voltec represents the technology used within the company’s economical vehicle the E-REV, the extended – range electric vehicle. The technology allows electricity to be utilised in the most effective way possible. Electricity is the car’s primary power source with petrol or E85 bio ethanol as its secondary source if needed.
Voltec contains a 111 kW electric drive unit, an engine generator for the electricity to be generated and a T shaped battery pack.
The extended range electric vehicle known as E-REV is powered by an energy storage system known as RESS. It utilises an on board electrical energy generation unit as well as a fuel supply, which is how the petrol unit is used after the electricity has run out.
The Vauxhall Ampera will be a prime example of how wonderful and ground breaking the technology really is. In essence it is designed for cars to be economical amid a fuel rise crisis.
FlexRide
The FlexRide represents adaptive stability technology. It is a very sophisticated piece of equipment that works upon data collected from all drive components and the chassis.
FlexRide is determines factors such as the damping control. This adapts the appropriate damper settings in real time.
The four channel anti-lock braking system utilises electronic brake force distribution for the most effective braking in dangerous situations. Traction control and electronic stability programme (otherwise known as ESP) is also included under the FlexRide bracket.
Adaptive Forward lighting
Vauxhall headlights are being made to adapt to all locations and conditions imaginable. The technology is very intelligent and moves into the car safety bracket.
The headlights are able to move at different angles depending on the road ahead. They don’t dazzle and blind drivers ahead despite them illuminating roads up to 90% more.
