General Motors is looking to step up their game in India, according to reports coming from the country. The Indian division of General Motors are all set to unveil three new vehicles to the country as they attempt increase sales and presence. Their small car portfolio is set for additions. General Motors’ small car strategy will be key to the company’s success. Small cars account for the vast majority of vehicles sold.

Motors established their Indian division, General Motors India joining forces with SAIC, a Chinese automotive company. There Chinese partners will offer invaluable information and insight on how to successfully compete in such a competitive market. New cars are expected to be released replacing the aged Aveo UV-A and the Aveo notchback. The light commercial vehicle market is also set for a General Motors appearance towards the end of the year.

The President of General Motors’ Indian affairs, Lowell Paddock said “We are looking at dismantling our older products by introducing new cars to bring excitement into the market. We would be targeting the premium hatchback and small sedan market with Sail brand and bring both diesel and petrol offering to cater to larger group of customers.”The Chevrolet Spark is set for a new refreshed look going into India. It will receive some new features on the exterior helping to lure more customers. Cleverly the vehicle will be released during September, a festive month in India. The Chevrolet Spark only managed to sell 1,541 vehicles in the first two month of the financial year, a dip of 78 per cent. Clearly a new strategy is needed.
