Vauxhall reveal new Grandland X SUV 0

Vauxhall-reveal-new-Grandland-X-SUVVauxhall have unveiled details of their new SUV, the Grandland X.

Using the same platform as the Peugeot 3008, it will cost somewhere in the region of £22,000 when it starts to appear in showrooms in 2018.

The Grandland X is the first new Vauxhall model since the PSA Group’s buyout of the General Motor’s subsidiary companies (Vauxhall and Opel). Prior to that deal being signed back in March, the two automakers reached an agreement to share tech in a strategic partnership, resulting in the Grandland X sporting many of the underpinnings also used on the latest 3008.

The car will be built in France, and at a length of 4.5 metres, it will be the largest SUV in the Vauxhall range, coming in ahead of the Mokka X and Crossland X editions in the range. Similar to the Crossland X, which is slightly smaller and set to go on sale midway through 2017, the Grandland X has a rugged design, with a pair of highest LED headlights, metal skid plates, plastic cladding around the wheel arches, and door sills. The interior will have space comfortably for five adults plus boot space that will range from 514 litres (rear seats in place) to 1652 litres (without).

The dashboard will be the regular, standard layout featuring a central colour touchscreen – to be linked to the latest edition of Vauxhall’s OnStar system. Occupants will be able to access not only navigation, DAB, and in-car settings, but will also be able to book hotel rooms and find parking spaces.

The powertrain options are still to be confirmed, but it is expected that the engine line-up will be divided across four-cylinder petrol and diesels, linked to both automatic and manual transmissions. No details have been released about potential four wheel drive options; Vauxhall has mentioned that Peugeot’s Grip Control system will be available as an optional extra, which will adapt the torque distribution between the front wheels to maximise traction.
