2015 Vauxhall Corsa VXR 0
The new Vauxhall Corsa XVR uses the old 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine from the old version the Corsa with some modifications, changed like the new air filters added, intercooler and a completely new dual-exit Remus exhaust, which was only previously available on the limited edition VXR’s. All the changes combined lead to lower overall emissions and a much better performance compared to the old Corsa.
The modified version of the 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine under the bonnet of the Corsa can produce 205bhp and 180lb ft of torque, which can push the car from 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds. The Corsa XVR can reach a top speed of 143mph, which is faster than the Ford Fiesta ST, but slightly slower than the Renault Sport Clio.
Prices for the new Vauxhall Corsa VXR start at £17,995, which amazingly is £1000 cheaper than the old Vauxhall Corsa. And this price includes Bi-xenon headlights, Vauxhall’s IntelliLink touchscreen system and posh bucket seats as standard, which works out as £400 cheaper than the equivalent trim in the Ford.
Can the Corsa XVR challenge the Ford Fiesta ST?
In a sector of the car market dominated by the Ford Fiesta ST, Vauxhall will be hoping this car can challenge for its crown as Britain’s best hatch-back. But with the Corsa offering a slightly better performance packet for the money, the Vauxhall Corsa VXR sure does have a great chance to challenge the Ford Fiesta ST for its crown. But only time will tell how it will really compare against such a great car.
