It will be a unique event which revolves around the Vauxhall Astra VXR, named the Astra VXR Media Sprint Challenge. Motoring journalists will race around the track to see who is able to record the best possible time. The journey will last for three hours and will cover 110 miles in the town of Rockingham itself. The final part of the race will involve a sprint race on the Rockingham track. The event will not be open to the general public, being an MSA accredited event. Not just any journalist can take part either. They must hold the appropriate race license. Safety training will also be provided before hand as a race of this calibre.Just from reading that the Vauxhall Astra sounds like it will be a tremendously powerful vehicle. With so many safety barriers being put before the race it seems that the Vauxhall Astra VXR is an extremely powerful car.It will contain a 2.0 litre turbo charged engine which will be able to produce a total of 280 BHP. From 0 – 60 MPH the car will be able to record a time of 5.9 seconds.
The car’s maximum speed will be 155 MPH. Never mind the car on the streets of London or Edinburgh, imagine the VXR on a racetrack going all out! The driver is sure to experience a wonderfully thrilling and exciting drive. The Vauxhall Astra VXR’s to be used in the race will not be modified in any way. They will be the full retail version, meaning potential customers will get accurate results and readings of the exact VXR’s that will be built in the showroom. This will mean that the vehicle will contain custom Brembo brakes to help contain that enormous amount of power. The VXR will also contain a FlexRide adaptive dampening system. For those who want one, the car will be so on sale in July for a price of £26,995. Sound pricey? The car is probably worth it in our opinion. The Vauxhall Astra VXR never fails to disappoint and this time round it is more powerful than ever.
